Get the VIP PassExperiment with watercolor and Inktense to create beautiful backgrounds and designs for stitching.
Materials
- Watercolors - these can be student grade. I used Cadmium Lemon, Cadmium Yellow Light, and Yellow Ochre, but feel free to use whatever colors you like for your background
Pressing sheet or plastic - to protect your table - Paint brushes - a soft one for the watercolor and stiffer ones for the inktense
- Cup for water and optional spray bottle
- Paint palette Frixon pen 0.5 (heat eraseable pen)
- Derwent Inktense blocks - usually come in a tin of 12 or more - Inktense pencils work too!
- 100 % cotton fabric, cotton canvas Scrap fabric or paper towel
- Scissors Thread to match your project (embroidery or sewing thread)
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Painter ā s tape (optional)
- Straight pins (optional)

GET THE VIP PASS >Darcy Hunter
Darcy Hunter is a New Brunswick - based textile and mixed media artist whose work is deeply inspired by the natural world. With a background in Biological Sciences, she brings close observation and a strong sense of place to her creative practice. Drawing on photographs gathered from the landscapes around her, Darcy translates fleeting moments into expressive textile compositions. Her process combines fabric manipulation, free - motion machine embroidery, hand stitching, layered textures, and upcycled fabrics to create richly detailed works that evoke movement and atmosphere. A juried member of Craft NB and Studio Art Quilt Associates, Darcy has received grants from ArtsNB and Artists in Schools, completed artist residencies, and exhibited her work across Canada. Her pieces are held in private collections throughout North America. She also draws on her education degree to share her practice through teaching, online classes, speaking engagements, and published articles.
