Materials

A pencil for sketching your shape

A large flat stone, piece of driftwood, or sturdy piece of cardboard. Make sure that the edges of what you choose are relatively flat to ensure your yarn doesn’t slide off the edges

A pair of scissors

A bent tapestry needle or flat bent bodkin. The flat bodkins are useful for sliding along the flat surface of a stone

A fork - not essential, but can be useful for beating your weaving down into place

Paper for drawing your shape or image

A thick black marker pen

Paper tape

Warp yarn (I’m using ‘Soft DK’ by Hoooked)

Ellie Fisher is a weaver and the founder of Elka Textiles, a weaving and natural dye studio based in Hampshire. She spent much of her childhood living abroad, the vibrant markets of the Middle and Far East giving her a lasting interest in colour, texture and pattern that still shapes her work today.
Ellie holds both a BA in Textile Design and an MA in Design for Textile Futures, from Central Saint Martins, graduating in 2006 when she returned to Hampshire to set up her weaving business.
Ellie now teaches workshops and courses across four styles of weaving, working alongside her mother, who teaches natural dyeing. Together they run Elka Textiles as a small team producing handwoven textiles, naturally dyed yarn and teaching resources.
