This technique-packed workshop focuses on small details that instantly lift your sewing projects. In this workshop, it's demonstrated how to make yo-yos two ways (hand stitched and with a Clover yo-yo maker) and folded hexagons for quick texture and dimension. You’ll also learn the basics of English paper piecing with hexagon shapes, including both glue basting and thread basting, so you can choose the method that suits you best. To finish, share easy hand stitching that adds beautiful texture: big stitch quilting, simple running stitches, and whip stitch. These are beginner-friendly skills you can mix and match to add charm, texture, and personality to patchwork, quilting, and other hand-sewn projects.

Materials

  • Fabric Scissors

  • 10" square of patchwork fabric or similar

  • 10" square of quilt batting: if you have single-sided fusible batting that’s helpful, if not use pins or needle and thread to baste the 10" square and batting together

  • Sewing Needle: Milliner #10 or similar

  • Quilting/Embroidery Needle: needle to use for big stitch quilting and whipping running stitch. I use a Chenille #24 or #26

  • Sewing thread: #80-#50wt thread (for making yo-yos, folded hexagons and doing the English paper piecing)

  • Quilting and whipped stitch thread: 8-12wt thread

  • Fabric: fat quarter of fabric, cut two 6" circles before you start watching, keep the rest of the fat quarter as you will use it during the video

  • 1" and ½” English paper piecing hexagons: a couple of each, if you have them, they are included as a printable in the Worksheet.
